Louisiana Pain Management has been in practice since July 1994. Our team of board certified pain management physicians have more than 25 years of combined experience in contemporary pain management. Utilizing the latest in technology and techniques, we are committed to helping patients suffering with pain overcome their conditions and lead healthier, more productive lives.
We treat patients with varying degrees of pain and diverse physical conditions through the use of the following:
EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTIONS
These steroid blocks can be performed in the cervical spine, thoracic spine or lumbar spine for treatment of conditions related to nerve irritation or nerve damage. These conditions can include degenerative disc disease, herniated disc, facet joint arthropathy or spondylosis of the spine, stress or traumatic injuries, or mass effect from tumors.
The procedure is usually done under IV sedation and almost always performed with the use of fluoroscopy (x-ray). Local anesthetic and steroid derivative is injected into the epidural space to reduce irritation and inflammation. The procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis, with only one day of rest required for most patients.
TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS
These injections are used to treat sprains, muscle strains, or myofascial syndromes. Injections of local anesthetic (and sometimes a small amount of steroid) are made into or near hypersensitive areas of muscle and tendons to optimize pain control.
SYMPATHETIC NERVE BLOCKS
These blocks are performed by anesthetizing the sympathetic nerves that lie along the spine. This is used to treat complex regional pain syndromes (reflex sympathetic dystrophy), peripheral vascular disease, and other chronic pain conditions.
Again, the procedure is performed in the outpatient setting under IV sedation with the use of fluoroscopy (x-ray).
PERIPHERAL NERVE BLOCKS
These blocks may be performed to treat almost any type of nerve injury or irritation secondary to trauma from motor vehicle or work-related accidents. These procedures are performed in the outpatient setting with IV sedation and often with the use of nerve stimulators.
OTHER TREATMENTS
In selected cases we perform radiofrequency neuro-ablation, cryoneurolysis, spinal cord stimulator implantation, and intrathecal drug infusion pump placement.
Many of the treatments we offer are utilized in conjunction with medications, physical therapy, and psychological therapy. It is our policy to keep all referring physicians fully informed of the treatment and progress of their patients.
